John Cullen was born October 6, 1936, in Ottawa Ontario CANADA and began drawing at a very early
age. His mother would always return from shopping with colouring books and crayons for him and his siblings. Art was encouraged
in the family.
A large "Mammoth 5cents" scribbler would
be converted into home-made comic strips, by squaring the blank pages and making 'stick' characters !
As John finished school, he apprenticed
as Commercial Artist at Fairbairn Art Studio, Ottawa where he designed the first carton of milk for Sealtest Dairies in 1952,
at the age of 16.
As a window Display Artist with Art Lazear
Displays, he designed many of Ottawa's store windows.
In Parry Sound Ontario, he owned Kristee-Raines
Sign and Display Sign Shop for 6 years.
Freelancing in Toronto, Hamilton, Calgary
and Edmonton, his skills with advertising increased.
He was Graphic Arts Director of the Amity Centre,
Hamilton, and for years he was running a Print Shop and designing Board games.
Freelancing once more in Ottawa,
he became an Editorial Cartoonist with the Calgary Reformer newspaper. His cartoons were seen across the country for years.Many
of his original LOGO designs are still with Ottawa firms.
Retired in Smiths Falls Ontario,
he continues with many forms of art, creating Logos,designing Colouring Books, Posters for Public Events and creates
"LIVE" Caricatures in The Local Parks on any sunny day!!
